Grove Pictures

These pictures are of "Byrd" Grove in Weirsdale, FL.  The trees in this block are Navel Oranges.  Navels Blossom in the Spring and grow throughout the summer.  The Navels start to ripen in early November and usually finish by mid January.  It is a treat to have them into February.  So the Navels in these pictures have been gathering Florida's sunshine for eleven months.

There are a couple of great things about this grove when it comes to Cold Weather.  It's on high ground, at 141' (yup, that's high in this part of Florida) and to the Northwest is Lake Weir.  Those two things help a lot when the temperatures get toward freezing.  The warm air blowing in from the Lake makes the difference to keep our Navels safe.  It's an awful pretty lake too!
